"The case is postponed to September 1 for trial and will be heard at the Scottburgh high court," Judge Esther Steyn said.
In the dock was 35-year-old Siphamandla Mhlongo, who was barely looking at the judge.
Mhlongo's co-accused, Makhosabo Mkhize, was killed at his KwaMashu home in July last year while on bail.
He was shot dead in Umlazi on January 22 while visiting his fiancée.
Zondi was the son of Inkosi Bhambatha Zondi, famous for leading a revolt against British rule and taxation in 1906.
The court would argue that Mhlongo shot Zondi with an AK-47 rifle and that the murder was planned by Mhlongo and other assailants.
Zondi's car had been sprayed with bullets, forcing it to hit the road barrier.
It was also believed that when Zondi's car hit the barrier some of the assailants jumped out of their car and opened the door and continued to shoot Zondi. - Sapa
