Egoli: Place of Gold (commonly referred to as Egoli ) is a television soap opera created by Franz Marx. It revolves around the daily ups and downs, trials and tribulations of a handful of families in and around Johannesburg.
The soapie - South Africa's first - premiered on M-Net on Monday April 6 1992 and will end with its 4689th episode in 18 seasons on March 31.
And with its ending, the careers of many TV actors - both white and black - now hang in the balance.
But one actor who has struck it lucky and hit gold is Macks Papo, who for many years was known as business executive Tsheko Mashabela.
Yesterday, he was back on e.tv in Rhythm City as Ivan Tshinawa, a mafia boss who no-one should mess around with.
