SPRINGBOK Sevens manager Sebastian Prim is satisfied with yesterday's opening training session in Stellenbosch ahead of the IRB Sevens World series.

The first series takes place in Adelaide, Australia, from March 19 to 21 and the second a week later in Hong Kong.

Prim said yesterday's training programme under coach Paul Treu focused mainly on upper body strength and running up hills.

"I am delighted about the way things are. Most of the players looked sharp and showed commitment throughout," he said.

"It shows they have been working hard on their own during the holidays to keep themselves in good shape."

Treu has added three new players in the 22-member-squad, including Sharks Under-20 Brian Shabangu, Blue Bulls wing Sampie Mastriet and Marcel Brache.

The Springboks are gunning for a third successive Adelaide crown. They are in Pool C with US Sevens champions Samoa, France and Japan.

At the Hong Kong Sevens they will face Kenya, Zimbabwe and Korea in the pool stage . The South Africans are World Series champions, but are currently seventh on the log.
