SABC is biased against Sobukwe

I SENT letters about the 32nd commemoration of Pan Africanist Congress founding president Mangaliso Robert Sobukwe to all the dailies in Johannesburg but only two, Business Day and Sowetan published them.

I SENT letters about the 32nd commemoration of Pan Africanist Congress founding president Mangaliso Robert Sobukwe to all the dailies in Johannesburg but only two, Business Day and Sowetan published them.

They seem not to have had any problem publishing something about the PAC. The SABC's Setswana medium radio station Motsweding FM, also seemed to have had no problem with Sobukwe and the PAC except that its current affairs programme, Boresetse, didn't feature anything about the commemoration but did something on Joe Slovo in January.

I wrote to the management asking them how Boresetse justifies featuring Slovo's anniversary and ignores Sobukwe, a man who shook the imperialist world and made history.

But I would like to direct my criticism to the SABC's Morning Live programme hosted by Vuyo Mbuli and Leanne Manas. It is an ideological TV programme. They forget that they are a public broadcaster. Morning Live never reported on the countrywide celebrations marking Sobukwe's death, especially the February 27 rally, which is an event held annually in Sobukwe's birthplace at Graaff Reinet.

I sent emails to Morning Live from February 22 until February 26 every morning to remind them about the imminent anniversary of Sobukwe but all the e-mails were ignored. On February 26 I saw Mbuli and Manas at a soccer jamboree in Johannesburg, having ignored my emails from February 22.

Let me remind Mbuli and Manas the World Cup will come and go but the legacy of Sobukwe will be with us for a long time as long as there are people who will be talking about him.
