Call for peace in Togo

THE west African regional economic bloc, Ecowas, yesterday called for a peaceful, credible and transparent presidential election this week in Togo, an official statement said here.

THE west African regional economic bloc, Ecowas, yesterday called for a peaceful, credible and transparent presidential election this week in Togo, an official statement said here.

The Economic Community of West African States "urges all the stakeholders to continue to put the interest of their country over and above all partisan interests and to contribute to the successful conduct of a peaceful, credible and transparent election on March 4 2010".

Seven candidates, including incumbent Faure Gnassinge, are vying for the job as leader of the country

Previous elections in Togo have been marred by violence, mainly after the vote.
