The facility was opened over the weekend. The Lawaaikamp Stadium, which is a joint venture between FNB and the Mercia Draghoender-led George Municipality, is one of the legacy projects of the 2010 Fifa World Cup.
It is the fourth artificial pitch built by the banking institution in conjunction with the various municipalities in Pietermaritzburg, Mthatha and Thohoyandou.
Oliphant, who conducted the official opening in George, said the support from the bank which has been part of the development of football in South Africa for decades, was appreciated.
"They sponsor the Under-17 national team [Majimbos] and are also the official partners of the 2010 Fifa World Cup," he said adding.
He said that the bank's initiative of creating artificial pitches is a further statement to show their commitment to football.
Draghoender said they hoped to produce one or two players in Lawaaikamp to represent Bafana Bafana during the 2014 or 2018 World Cup finals. He was elected new mayor of George last Wednesday.
