Newly assembled Majimbos still have to qualify for the African Under-17 Championship in Rwanda but have already vowed to be the first South African Under-17 soccer side to go beyond.

"We are not only going to qualify for Rwanda but we'll make the 2011 World Under-17 Championship in Mexico," promised chief striker Samkelo "Dance" Zondi.

Zondi, who plays from Fubs in Clermont in KwaZulu-Natal, spoke to Sowetan after Majimbos hammered Mozambique 4-0 in an international friendly in George on Saturday as part of the opening of the Lawaaikamp Stadium.

Zondi scored one of the goals.

"We have assembled the best team ever and we want to assure South Africans that we will definitely be in Mexico, the re-emergence of South African soccer on the continent must start with us," said Zondi.

Coach Solly Luvhengo, who is assisted by Mandla Mazibuko, said they planned to play a few more friendlies as preparation for the qualifiers.
