KINGSTON - Usain Bolt, the world's fastest man over the short sprints, produced an impressive 400m anchor leg but couldn't deliver a victory in the 4x400m relay at Saturday's Gibson Relays.

KINGSTON - Usain Bolt, the world's fastest man over the short sprints, produced an impressive 400m anchor leg but couldn't deliver a victory in the 4x400m relay at Saturday's Gibson Relays.

Bolt's anchor split was 43.58 seconds. He brought the more than 15000 spectators to their feet as he took the baton in fourth place, some 20m behind, and roared past all but the leader by the backstretch.

He challenged for the victory in the final 100m, but weakened toward the line as his team, Racer's Lions, finished second in 3:05.77 behind University of Technology (UTech), who won in 3:05.33. Earlier he anchored his team to a 4x100m relay victory in 38.08sec.

Yohan Blake, Marvin Anderson and Kenroy Anderson teamed with Bolt in the 4x100m team that finished ahead of a Racer's B squad that featured Antigua's Daniel Bailey.

UTech, including Anneisha McLaughlin and Christine Day, ran 3:36.21 to beat MVP (3:44.46) in the women's 4x400m relay. - AFP
