LARNACA - BANYANA Banyana need to pick themselves up and salvage some pride when they face Canada in their final group match of the Cyprus Women's Cup at the Ammochostos Stadium in Larnaca this afternoon at 2pm.

After losing to England 1-0 in a hard fought game earlier in the week, they were then given a 3-1 drubbing by Switzerland in a match which most felt should have been stopped in atrocious weather conditions.

Now they need to go back to the drawing board and find a way onto the points table.

Unfortunately, the weather has not been conducive to outdoor training for the Sasol-sponsored team.

Put through their paces by team physiotherapist Caren Fleishman, the girls worked up a sweat for an hour doing aerobics and stretches followed by some exercises in the pool.

"Luckily for us there are some facilities we can use at the hotel so it has helped us but obviously we would prefer to be out on the field," said the physio.

"In the circumstances, we just have to make do with what we've got.

For Argentinian goalkeeper coach, Alejandro Heredia, it is more frustrating.

"This weather obviously doesn't suit us especially with our African style of play and it's even worse for goalkeepers who need to practice with the actual ball," said the former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns player and goalkeeper coach who also worked with all the South African national sides in the past fourteen years. - Sapa
