Policeman given bail

THE Pietermaritzburg high court on Thursday granted bail of R5000 to a former police station commissioner awaiting trial for alleged theft and fraud.

THE Pietermaritzburg high court on Thursday granted bail of R5000 to a former police station commissioner awaiting trial for alleged theft and fraud.

Judge Jerome Mnguni found that a previous court ruling denying bail to Hariram Badul, 60, had not given sufficient weight to his health problems. Badul had had a chest operation last month, has type two diabetes and hypertension and suffers from angina.

He is to stand trial on March 5 on charges of theft and fraud allegedly involving R467000 with co-accused Superintendent Yunus Khan, Captain Suresh Narainduth, Constable Patrik Nkabini and businessman Sigumoney Pillay. - Sapa
