THE announcement by General Motors that it will wind-down the Hummer brand will have no impact on its operations in SA.

The carmaker said yesterday while it no longer distributed and sold Hummer vehicles, it remained fully committed to looking after its customers.

GMSA spokesperson Denise van Huyssteen said: "Customers can be assured that we will continue to offer full after sales support and that we will honour warranty agreements."

She said GMSA halted Hummer H3 production in May 2009 and the process of consolidating manufacturing operations at the Struandale production facility had commenced

On Wednesday GMSA's parent firm in the US said the deal to sell Hummer to a Chinese carmaker had fallen through, forcing the company to shut down the loss-making brand. - Sapa
