IN KEEPING up with the 2010 spirit, banking giant Absa will hand out Bafana Bafana replica jerseys to their employees today.

Absa sponsorship manager Steward Masela said the purpose of the event was to garner more support for the national team going into the 2010 Fifa World Cup, which will be held from June 11 to July 11. "This is part of the build-up to the World Cup. We will be handing out 39532 replica Bafana Bafana jerseys to our employees to build up the momentum ahead of the World Cup," Masela said yesterday.

"This is also in support of football Fridays and we, as Bafana Bafana's sponsors, would like to do our bit to support the team. This is team and national pride and we will do everything in our power to show them support. We urge all South Africans to do the same," he told Sowetan.

He said the occasion would be graced by a number of high-profile football personalities.

"We are privileged and honoured that we will have in our midst national team coach Carlos Alberto Parreira, league champions SuperSport United, team manager Sipho Nkumane and a number of Bafana players. We are also glad that Minister of Tourism Marthinus van Schalkwyk and the Springbok Sevens will be with us.

"This is a wonderful initiative and we are showing solidarity with the rest of the country in our support of the national team," he said.
