BAFANA Bafana's Class of 1996 will be the special guests when local and foreign dignitaries visit Soccer City tomorrow as part of a five-day tour of all 10 World Cup venues.
The Local Organising Committee (LOC) tour, which begins in Johannesburg tomorrow, is aimed at showcasing South Africa's readiness for the World Cup.
Lucas Radebe, captain of the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations winners, will be there . Also present will be Doctor Khumalo, Neil Tovey, Mark Fish, Helman Mkhalele, Linda Buthelezi, John Moeti, Thomas Madigage, Mark Williams, David Nyathi and Andre Arendse.
The players will be led on to the stadium pitch by a former Bafana teammate, John Moshoeu, in his capacity as the legend supporting McDonald's World Cup player escorts. Johannesburg's 2010 executive director Sibongile Mazibuko will take the guests on the tour of Soccer City. The imposing venue will host the opening and closing ceremonies of the tournament.
Earlier on in the day, the guests will start at the nearby Ellis Park Stadium, the venue where Amabhokobhoko lifted the 1995 Rugby World Cup. That tour will be led by winning captain Francois Pienaar.
Ellis Park hosted the opening and closing matches of the 2009 Confederations Cup.
LOC chief executive Danny Jordaan will also address the media on the World Cup's unifying role in terms of sport in South Africa.
Jordaan will be joined by Fifa general secretary Jerome Valcke, Gauteng premier Nomvula Mokonyane and Johannesburg mayor Amos Masondo.
From Johannesburg, the entourage will go to Tshwane, Rustenburg, Nelspruit and Polokwane.
The team will also visit other host cities Port Elizabeth, Durban, Bloemfontein and Cape Town.
