THE Augusto Palacios Apprentice Academy opens for the 2010 season on March 6 with training sessions scheduled for Arthur Bloch in Mayfair, Johannesburg.

Playing and training equipment will be distributed to registered players on that day. Training sessions take place every Thursday and Saturday at 4pm and 9.15am, respectively.

Academy director Augusto "Njenje" Palacios says they do not offer accommodation, lessons or transport at the famous institution. The academy operates from March to November for training and games.

"Registration of players is done in October. The best players at the end of November will be promoted to the Orlando Pirates development programme.

"We are excited by the support we have been getting throughout the country since we started with the apprentice academy in 2005. The response has been incredible.

"Since we started with this academy we have promoted 22 players to the Pirates development programme and the players are doing well.

"It's a matter of months before we start seeing some of them being promoted to the senior team," said the Peru-born Palacios, who has also coached Bafana Bafana.
