Majimbos open new grounds

THE South African Under-17 soccer side will welcome neighbours Mozambique in an international friendly in George on Saturday to open a sports facility that is one of the 2010 Fifa World Cup legacy projects in Western Cape.

The new state-of-the-art artificial pitch at the Lawaaikamp Sports Ground was built by World Cup official partners First National Bank and the George local municipality.

The municipality said it was convinced that the community of George, and in particular the youth, will benefit a great deal from this soccer 2010 legacy project.

It is hoped that the facility will help develop football in the tourism hot spot.

This is the fourth artificial pitch the banking institution has been built in South Africa. The first one is in Pietermaritzburg, the second in Mthatha and the third in Thohoyandou.

Majimbos coach Solly Luvhengo is using Saturday's match to sharpen his team for the 2011 African Under-17 Championships.
