Sun City meet not only for coaches

THE Local Organising Committee is adamant that the Fifa workshop under way at Sun City is no damp squib after only 19 of the 32 coaches of the 2010 World Cup teams turned up for the event.

THE Local Organising Committee is adamant that the Fifa workshop under way at Sun City is no damp squib after only 19 of the 32 coaches of the 2010 World Cup teams turned up for the event.

LOC media liaison officer Delia Fischer said the committee was happy with the representation at the workshop.

Fifa had initially announced that the workshop would be attended by all 32 coaches.

Fischer said all the teams were represented. "We have only 19 head coaches here but there are representatives from all participating countries. If a head coach failed to show up for whatever reason, their federation sent someone to stand in for him," Fischer said.

She said the invitation to the workshop was not only for head coaches.

"We have security officers, logistic managers and the like attending this workshop. The coaches were just an additional element and it is not a train smash that they are not all here," Fischer said.

Among the coaches who are in the country for the workshop are England coach Fabio Capello, former Bafana Bafana coach and current Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz, Dunga of Brazil, France mentor Raymond Domenech and Italy's Marcello Lippi.
