Richter, the owner of Heia Safari Ranch in Muldersdrift, was gunned down outside his home in what seemed like a robbery.
Khumalo and another co-accused Vincent Dlamini, who the state also said they had no direct evidence against, are likely to walk free when Judge Piet Meyer delivers his judgment.
All six accused, Mbokazi, Khumalo, Dlamini, Johnson Chirwa, Dumisani Xulu and Gilbert Mosadi, pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and armed robbery.
During closing argument yesterday, Xulu's lawyer Advocate Ludwe Biyana said nothing linked his client to the murder except two confession statements that contradicted each other. Biyana quoted one of the confessions as saying the accused travelled in a car when they went to kill Richter, while another said they travelled on foot.
It also emerged that Mbokazi used her husband's cellphone to call Khumalo. The phone records show 66 calls were made to the lover.
There were also two calls made from Mbokazi's cellphone and three made from her landline to Xulu.
The state argues that Mbokazi's theory that he never met or knew Xulu was a lie based on the phone records.
