Banyana gear up for 8 Nations

BANYANA Banyana are expected to make all Africans proud when they take part in the Eight Nations Tournament in Cyprus from February 24 to March 3.

As the only African team invited to take part after their debut last year, Banyana will play their group stage matches against the likes of England, Switzerland and Canada. Banyana were tested yesterday at the University of Johannesburg.

Vice-captain Simphiwe Dludlu said the ladies were eager to showcase their skill.

She said they needed to be focused on their game and not to be intimidated: "Willingness and effort is important and we will only succeed if we work extremely hard."

Goalkeepers - Wendy Bellora (Luso FC), Simpiwe Mnuguni (Local United FC), Thoko Mndaweni (Crusas FC). Defenders - Dludlu (Tuks Sport FC Gauteng), Janine van Wyk (Luso FC), Emily Mokgotlhe (UJ), Gloria Thato (Bophelong Ladies), Sibongiseni Khamlana (Cape Town Roses), Nthabiseng Modiko (UJ). Midfielders - Hlengiwe Ngwane (Super Falcons), Sana Mollo (Bloemfontein Celtic), Mary Ntsweng (Mphahlele Ladies), Abongile Mbawu (Coastal Ladies), Sesebo Mokgopa (Luso FC), Nompumelelo Nyandeni (Detroit Mpumalanga). Forwards - Mamphasha Popela (Flamingo Ladies), Andiswe Mgcoyi (Cape Town Roses), Amanda Dlamini (Durban Ladies), Noko Matlou (Brazilian Ladies), Leandra Smeda (Ambassadors FC) and captain Kylie-Ann Louw (USA).
