Written by Paul Grootboom the show has been making waves at the Market Theatre in Newtown for a while now.
It's been nominated in major categories such as best production of a straight play, best cutting-edge production, best director, best performance by an actress and best supporting actress among others.
Foreplay is in good company. In 2006 James Ngcobo's adaptation, The Suitcase, received 10 nominations and won six.
Grootboom said yesterday: "This is an honour for me and the actors. We really appreciate the acknowledgement we are getting.
"Most importantly, I am happy for the actors, who really gave their all in this show."
After a successful season last year at the Market Theatre, Foreplay had a re-run this year because of its popularity.
"The show did well last year and this year we were approached by the Market Theatre for a nine weeks re-run," Grootboom said. "People like the show more than we anticipated."
Despite its raw depiction of a variety of forms of sexual exploitation, Grootboom said, it imparts an important message.
"Though many people focus on the issue of sex and the explicit language, there is a strong message of HIV-Aids behind that," he explained. "The show also explores issues of crime, prostitution, deceit, alcohol and rape."
