THE remains of ANC stalwart Johnny Makhathini will be returned to South Africa from Zambia for a reburial.

THE remains of ANC stalwart Johnny Makhathini will be returned to South Africa from Zambia for a reburial.

ANC spokesperson Jackson Mthembu said in a statement yesterday that Makhathini's remains, which were buried in Zambia in 1988, will be exhumed and reburied in Pietermaritzburg on February 27.

Makhathini, who served the ANC in various capacities, including as its representative to the US while it was banned in SA, died in exile in 1988.

"Let us individually and collectively afford comrade Makhathini the necessary honour and respect he deserves," ANC general secretary Gwede Mantashe said. - Sapa
