WITH the league championship clearly out of their reach, the only thing Kaizer Chiefs can give their supporters is the satisfaction of a convincing win against Orlando Pirates.

But so bad has the standard of the Soweto derby been that even the players claim that Saturday's showdown at Orlando Stadium is the last thing on their minds. Their focus is on tonight's match against Mpumalanga Black Aces.

Captain Jimmy Tau confirmed that they were concentrating on tonight's encounter against AmaZayoni at Loftus in Pretoria.

"We are not thinking about the derby at the moment since we have an important match against Aces (tonight)," Tau said.

"It is important to concentrate on the Aces match because they are also a good side."

The former Pirates rightback might have a point since Aces gave them a real scare when the two teams played to a pulsating 3-all draw in the first round at the Puma Rugby Stadium in November.

Aces were on course for a memorable victory that night until Siphiwe Tshabalala's freekick deep into injury time saw the two teams share the spoils.

AmaZayoni should have won that match, which they led 3-1 at one stage but their inexperience and naivety saw Amakhosi claw their way back.

Indeed, the league's upstarts have proven difficult to beat on their own turf, especially against the big sides. Pirates also returned with only a single point from Mpumalanga.

But at home Chiefs will fancy their chances.

Aces captain Godfrey Nobula warned that his team were going to cause an upset.

"We don't need any motivation when playing against teams like Chiefs, as the game is itself a motivation. But we know that if we put them under pressure and don't allow them to play their normal game, their fans will turn against them and this can benefit us.

"Hopefully we'll come back with maximum points and I urge our supporters around Gauteng to rally round us," Nobula said. The match kicks off at 7.30pm.
