NATIONAL Lottery operator Gidani says Friday's R91million PowerBall winner is still out there and has yet to claim his or her millions.
This statement came after a Sunday newspaper published pictures of a Cape Town man, Stanley Philander, as the winner of South Africa's biggest lottery jackpot.
The newspaper said 52-year-old Philander is deaf and works as a cleaner at a hardware shop in Wynberg, Cape Town.
Philander lives with his 50-year-old wife, Diana, who is also deaf and their two children aged nine and six. They live in a wooden house in a relative's backyard.
Gidani spokesperson Thembi Tulwana confirmed to Sowetan that there was a winner of the mega jackpot who had not yet come forward. She said they did not know anything about Philander.
"No one has claimed the jackpot prize. I only read about Philander in the papers like you," Tulwana said.
"According to Gidani, the winner is still out there and has not claimed," she said.
Tulwana said a media conference on PowerBall's performance and the winner would be held today at the Gidani offices in Midrand.
PowerBall rolled over a record 22 times before Friday's winner got the right numbers. This was South Africa's biggest jackpot.
