THE national women's Under-20 squad's prospects of playing any part in the Fifa Under-20 Women's World Cup in Germany in July are in tatters.

Nigeria's Super Falconets were uncompromising in Pretoria on Saturday as they thrashed Basetsana 5-3 in the first-leg qualifier of the world event. The match was played at Caledonian Stadium.

Coach Augustine Makalakalane had spoken at length about his desire for a home win before the return leg in Nigeria in two weeks' time.

He says: "We made silly mistakes and conceded goals, especially since we scored first and early. But after that, the girls thought that they could relax and we were punished."

If Basetsana were intimidated in their own back yard, what will they do in Nigeria? "We have a mountain to climb. But we have to go out and fight. We're not giving up," Makalakalane said.
