A SENIOR police officer is expected to appear in the Sasolburg magistrate's court today on a charge of rape, the Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) said yesterday.
The superintendent, who was being investigated by the police watchdog, is based in the Free State provincial commissioner's office, the ICD said in a statement.
The attack allegedly happened on February 11 at the Deneysville police station barracks when the senior superintendent allegedly threatened a 32-year-old woman with a firearm.
"It is alleged that he forced the victim into his car and drove towards the Vereeniging Road and onto an open field. After stopping, he then allegedly instructed her to take off her clothes and raped her twice on top of the car's bonnet," said the ICD.
"He raped her again on the pavement, and thereafter took her back to the station and left.
"After the ICD was informed the following day, the senior superintendent was arrested at Bainsvlei police station," it said.
Meanwhile, Bramley police arrested a man for housebreaking at the weekend.
The station's intervention unit was alerted to a house robbery in the area at about 6pm on Saturday.
The 23-year-old man had broken the window to gain access to the house. The domestic worker heard a noise and called the police.
Bramley police spokesperson Inspector Moses Maphakela said: "The man was carrying a huge bag in which he had already placed goods he stole from the house. He had taken clothes, curtains and electrical appliances."
The man is expected to appear in the Hillbrow magistrate's court soon.
