Utaf spokesperson Ralph Jones said they remained unshaken on their position to get the metro council to explain how the taxi industry will benefit from the BRT system.

He said they were gearing up for a strike, which they want to stage before March 1, the date on which the full phase 1A of BRT will be implemented.

"We will go on a strike. We have not decided on the date as yet but we are looking at February 26, which is before their implementation date," Jones said.

"The strike might take the whole week. We are also engaging our lawyers because we want to take the matter back to court."

The City of Johannesburg gave details of how the new operations would be implemented.

Rehana Moosajee, a member of the mayoral committee in charge of transport, said the new service would include a complementary bus service that would take passengers from Dobsonville to Johannesburg city centre and Ellis Park.

The feeder service, Moosajee said, would fetch passengers from Naledi, Jabavu and Mofolo areas to Thokoza Park, Lakeview and Boomtown stations.

Johannesburg executive director of transport Lisa Seftel said yesterday the door was still open for the taxi associations affected by BRT.
