'she beat her teacheR up'

A LIMPOPO pupil is in hot water after allegations that she had assaulted a teacher at school.

The incident occurred at the Dr AMS Makunyane High School in Seshego's Zone 5 section outside Polokwane on Friday morning.

Daisy Makwea, 19, a Grade 12 pupil at the school, had allegedly gone out of class to drink water without seeking permission.

On her return to class the teacher allegedly confronted her and told her to leave her class.

Makwea allegedly became agitated and grabbed the female teacher by the collar, dragged her to the school's quad, where they were seen by many teachers and pupils.

She then is believed to have assaulted the teacher. It is alleged a male teacher tried to intervene but Makwea was allegedly too powerful to be subdued.

It was only after another teacher came to the rescue that they were able to contain the teen.

Makwea then allegedly hurled insults at the teachers.

She has represented her school in several singing competitions and won several trophies.

But Makwea is not new to trouble. She allegedly organised an unauthorised trip to attend the school's matric dance last year.

When she and her group arrived at the event at the Mawetse Hall in Polokwane, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, they were refused entry and Makwea allegedly then called female teachers names.

The matter was reported to the school principal, Makwea attended a disciplinary hearing and was given a warning.

Efforts to obtain comment from Makwea yesterday were unsuccessful as her phone was switched off.

Provincial department of education spokesperson Ndo Mangala said they viewed the matter seriously and had instructed the school to speed up disciplinary proceedings against Makwea.

"The outcome must serve as a deterrent to other pupils," he said.
