Safety must be tightened up in Gauteng

I JOIN many people in the Joburg city centre as a victim of crime.

I JOIN many people in the Joburg city centre as a victim of crime.

What makes it worse was that someone tried to hijack me outside the provincial legislature, the very seat of power in the province, and near the premier's office.

No wonder she drives from one building to another.

We are coming to the 2010 World Cup. If the department of community safety can't keep residents safe, how are they going to protect tourists? If they can't even keep those within ANC-governed precincts safe, how will they protect VIPs from overseas?

The department needs to make a serious effort to clamp down on crime in Gauteng. Just one tourist dead from crime and the World Cup will be ruined.
