DURBAN motorists are digging deep into their pockets to maintain dents and damage caused by poor road infrastructure around the city.
Potholes have left road users fuming over the municipality's failure to curb the problem.
Some motorists claim travelling on various routes to avoid bad roads has added to their petrol costs.
Businessman Simphiwe Ndlela claimed he paid more for damages caused by the bad roads on his car than he would pay for his personal needs.
He said he has lodged complaints with the municipality but the repairs done to some of the roads were only temporary.
Ndlela said negligence from construction companies working on the roads also contributed to the bad state of some roads.
Municipality spokesperson Ken Hobson said they had a plan of action to deal with such matters and had set up a hotline on 080-131-3013 for the public to alert his department.
