THE clash between Platinum Stars and Free State Stars is a battle between two coaches who have promised much, but failed to deliver.

The rescheduled Absa Premiership match takes place at Moruleng Stadium tomorrow afternoon and the contest starts at 3.30pm.

The match was supposed to have been played on December 19 last year, but had to be postponed due to a waterlogged pitch and a power failure at the same venue.

Ea Lla Koto have found the going tough this season after doing so well in the previous one. Under the tutelage of coach Steve Komphela they managed to finish in the top eight.

Komphela's heroics prompted the Platinum Stars management to lure him to take over the reins at Dinaledi, hoping he would perform the same miracles.

Sadly, though, that did not happen and their struggle this season had the rumour mill buzzing with talk that the former Bafana Bafana captain would be sacked, which was denied by the club.

Komphela will argue that at ninth on the log he has fared well in his first season with the club, but the expectation is that he qualifies for the top eight.

It will be interesting to see how his players respond to the midweek defeat by Mamelodi Sundowns.

Free State Stars roped in experienced Gordon Igesund to try to help them climb the ladder but that has not yielded the desired results - they are dangerously close to relegation at 14th place with 27 points. Only three points separate them from second-to-last club Mpumalanga Black Aces. They still have AmaZulu, Maritzburg United and Kaizer Chiefs to play - a daunting task.

Captain Duncan "King" Lechesa and goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene's experience will be crucial for them, while Dinaledi's Dillon Sheppard and Edward Williams will lead their younger charges.
