This is a part of the Gauteng department of health and social development's massive safe sex campaign to coincide with the tournament.
Department spokesperson Mandla Sidu said yesterday: "The campaign will focus on educating people about safe sex and the role played by alcohol and drugs in the spread of HIV-Aids.
"Soccer stars and the South African Professional Football Union will be approached to form part of the education drive to reach as many people as possible during the World Cup and beyond. The entertainment industry will also be targeted with closer focus on bars, clubs, hotels, brothels, fan parks as well as park and ride facilities," Sidu said.
On Tuesday health and social development MEC Qedani Mahlangu met members of mayoral committees responsible for health, social development and emergency medical care to discuss plans to improve service delivery in the province.
They also discussed the province's readiness to implement the new HIV-Aids treatment protocol from April. The new protocol requires that anti-retroviral treatment should be provided to all patients co-infected with TB and HIV if their CD4 count in 350 or less.
