GOSPEL singer Fikile Mlomo will help bury the mother of a destitute family - to pass on the goodwill she once received.

She and her manager Tshepo Nzimande were at the deceased Mantwa Sello's home in Ivory Park this week to make arrangements for the funeral.

Fikile, who got her first break as "Lucy" in Soul City, recently released a gospel album titled Umangisuka.

She will attend the funeral today in Lindelani, Ivory Park 2.

Sello was formerly from Buthabuthe, Lesotho. She came to South Africa in 2000 in search of a better life.

She had two children, Zeblon and Angelinah, with her partner Elias Zulu.

Her neighbours looked after her when the local clinic told her she was too weak to go on antiretroviral treatment.

The neighbours have now informed her sibling, who lives in Western Cape, of Sello's passing.

"My mother died in similar circumstances in 2005. We had nothing and lived in a miserable shack. A Good Samaritan came to our rescue and my mother had a decent sendoff," Fikile said.

"When I heard about Sello I wanted to help, to pass on the favour done for my family.

"I want to honour my mother in passing on this blessing."

Nzimande said his company, Zuz'music, fully supported Fikile's gesture.

Prudence Fletcher, a poverty alleviation worker, said she would contact social workers to find a place for Sello's children.
