"The trust will not only assist the players and administrators, but also help soccer journalists who want to further their studies," said Safa president Kirsten Nematandani.
"I know we used to have the trust in the past and it just disappeared, maybe because the funds dried up. That's something we really need at Safa, we need to put money into that trust and get highly respected people to serve as members.
"Appointed members will also raise funds. We want players and referees in particular to study so that they have something to fall back on when they retire."
The announcement comes after Orlando Pirates dribbling wizard Dikgang Mabalane passed his sports administration course at the University of Johannesburg.
"Dikgang will graduate soon," said Chris Fortuin, a senior lecturer at the university.
