Public Protector calls for restraint

Disgruntled communities must approach the office of the public protector with their service delivery complaints rather than embark on violent protests, Public Protector Thulisile Madonsela said yesterday.

Disgruntled communities must approach the office of the public protector with their service delivery complaints rather than embark on violent protests, Public Protector Thulisile Madonsela said yesterday.

"Please entrust us with any complaint you have about service or wrongdoing by public authorities," she said in Alexandra.

"I will work tirelessly to ensure that your complaints are addressed without delay." Madonsela said during violent protests, the infrastructure the community needs for development was destroyed.

"It is understandable that communities get unhappy when government takes long to deliver on its promises. Violent protests are not necessarily the answer." - Sapa
