FS Stars, Wits share the spoils

TWO penalties and a red card characterised the Absa Premiership match between Free Stars Stars and Bidvest Wits which ended in a 1-all draw at Charles Mopeli Stadium in Namahadi yesterday.

The Students were awarded a penalty by referee Victor Hlungwane in the 73rd minute after Martin Carelse had handled the goal-bound ball inside the box and in the process earned a red card.

Sifiso Myeni made no mistake and easily beat goalie Kennedy Mweene.

Stars got their penalty in the 82nd minute after Hlungwane penalised Wits' defender Rene Richards for a handball in the danger zone. Mweene made no mistake from the resultant spotkick.

This was a game of missed opportunities as strikers from both sides fired blanks, much to the frustration of their coaches. Stars' forward Aleni Lebyane was the chief culprit, squandering clear-cut scoring chances in the fifth and seventh minutes.

The visitors, on the other hand, managed to raise their game, creating neat build-ups from the midfield, but also failed to translate this into goals.
