This was announced at a media briefing in Port Elizabeth yesterday by Putco Mafani of the municipality's marketing, communications and events directorate.
Pirates and United will be in the Eastern Cape for the African Champions League return match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on February 28.
"Pirates and United will also tour Kwa Dwesi for the Road to 2010 Zone 365 community roadshow where their players and officials will sign autographs on February 26," Mafani said.
"We are delighted CAF has given Pirates and the municipality the green light to use this match to mark the official opening of the stadium where a plaque will be unveiled.
"Importantly, it is the fans that will enjoy most, with mouth-watering entertainment, giveaways and competitions.
"We call on all South African football-loving fans to book their seats on time and be part of history as Pirates represent our country in this competition," Mafani said.
The match will take place on the eve of a host of events and festivities organised by Fifa to mark the 100 days' countdown to the Cup.
Bucs administrative executive Floyd "Jomo" Mbele said they were delighted to have been invited by the Nelson Mandela Bay Munici-pality to be part of this historic event to open the stadium with a Champions League match.
"For us playing in the Champions League means another opportunity to represent South Africa at the highest level of African club football, but that also means our supporters in the Eastern Cape deserve the lion's share of this campaign and that is why we decided to bring the game to the province where we have a massive support base," Mbele said.
