VINTAGE PORSCHE

HAVING fun can either be with or without your clothes on, my late friend used to say.

The new Porsche Panamera falls under the former. Although it is not going to be accessible to everyone, the Panamera is one of the few exciting vehicles in the market.

It is beautiful, bold and aggressive.

Launched in Cape Town last week, the Panamera is different from all the Porsches you have seen before.

This coupe is expected to take the exotic car segment by storm.

Sugar daddies who are eyeing Khanyi Mbau must get to the nearest Porsche centre. She has driven Lamborghinis before, and I am sure she would be happy to hop into a Panamera.

To say we had fun in the Panamera would be an understatement.

The 400km we drove was highly involved, interacting with the car on different roads and surfaces.

You can't launch a car in Cape Town without driving through the Franschhoek pass.

This is where things happen. The Panamera passed with flying colours. The car handles like a dream and feels like a small car.

Sitting behind the wheel of the flagship Panamera Turbo was like going into space. Its speed, pace and response were amazing.

It is a Porsche. I will spare you the boredom of highlighting what it has in terms of safety features.

However, it would be an injustice not to extol the high standard of comfort and exclusive features. The sound system has enough oomph to impress the music animals.

Although the Panamera is the first four-door Gran Turismo, it still carries the Porsche DNA.

The Panamera enters the market in three models: the Panamera S, the 4S and the Turbo.

They all performed to the expected standards, though the Turbo is the most lethal.

The 4.8-litre V8 engine in the S model is joined to the seven-speed double clutch transmission producing power output of 294kW and 500Nm of torque.

The 4S model has the same engine as the S but drives through all four wheels, while the Turbo produces 368kW of power and torque of 700Nm and drives through all four wheels.
