"The tickets are selling like hot cakes, just over 2000 tickets have been sold since last Monday," said Pirates publicist Mickey Modisane.
"We are over the moon that the derby has generated interest both here and some neighbouring countries.
"This is yet another platform to show our readiness for the World Cup. There are foreign journalists and TV crews in the country to do the build-up stories."
Pirates, who welcome AmaZulu at the same venue tonight, are hosting the derby - which splits households and brings warring politicians under one roof - this time round.
Tickets cost R40. Modisane urged fans in need of hospitality suites to phone Pirates' headquarters on 011-484-2084 during office hours.
"The February 20 clash will be exciting because the players hope to impress Bafana Bafana coach Carlos Alberto Parreira."
In the past, the derby used to be a clash between Patrick Ntsoelengoe, Samora Khulu and Doctor Khumalo for Chiefs and Jerry Sadike, Tornado Ntsibande and Pitso Mosimane for Pirates.
It remains to be seen if players like Bucs' Gert Schalkwyk and Moeneeb Josephs and Chiefs' Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Itumeleng Khune will monopolise the derby as Jerry Sikhosana and Brian Baloyi used to.
