I HAD been to this place before, when renovations were still going on, and quite recently when the place was renovated.

I HAD been to this place before, when renovations were still going on, and quite recently when the place was renovated.

Vardos in Mapetla, Soweto, a conference centre, bed and breakfast boasting a cosy bar, could be anywhere in the suburbs. It is spacious, clean and quite up-market.

Well, there are certainly a number of places like this one in other townships, now making themselves suitable for hosting intimate functions.

This place is the setting for what promises to be a great event for those who are in love this weekend.

A jazz valentine concert has been organised for Sunday for those who wish to chill and have a great time with their loved ones.

Badimo Jazz Band are among those who will perform.

Mhlupheki Mohajane, Thulani Shabangu, Sy Ntuli, Noss and Vintage Soul & Yonela are the other entertainers.

Now a bit about Yonela. I have witnessed this jazz pianist at a number of gigs in the past three years on stage.

Word has it that he is polishing his music genius at Wits University, where he is a student.

That this young man of the piano is blind is not a disadvantage for him.

Watch him and some other musicians entertain you and your loved one at Vardos this weekend .

The festivities start 12.30pm.

Those in the company of their loved ones, will pay less as tickets cost R80 a couple and R50 for those who will not be with their partners.

And for the couple that will be judged the most well-dressed or for those who will dance to thrill, they stand to win fabulous prizes.
