A TSHWANE municipal bus driver faces suspension after a pupil jumped out of the bus last week while the bus was still in motion and injured herself.

The accident happened when the driver allegedly failed to stop at a terminus, prompting the Cedarburg Special School pupil to panic and jump off.

Imment Mlambo,15, suffered serious injuries to the head when she jumped off the bus that was travelling on Prinsloo Street in the Pretoria CBD to Pretoria North.

The incident happened at Orchards Extension One in Pretoria North.

Tshwane municipality spokesperson Dikeledi Phiri said the accident happened last Monday but the bus services division only heard about it when the pupil's parents reported the matter the following day.

"According to information received the bus driver involved failed to stop at a bus terminus for one of the pupils to get off, though the pupil had indicated her intention in advance," Phiri said.

Phiri said preliminary investigations were launched and based on the findings it was recommended that the driver be suspended.

Mlambo was admitted to the Akasia Hospital for treatment.
