Another round of fist fights at the weekend resulted in the arrest of three ANCYL members.
Mzolisi Ndobe, chairperson of the the ANCYL's Chris Hani branch, his deputy Mkhuseli Mlengane and regional executive committee member Buyisa Maqhekeza were arrested on Sunday after allegations of malicious damage to property and theft.
They were granted R1000 bail each when they appeared in the Umzimkhulu magistrate's court yesterday. Their case was postponed to April 9 for further investigation.
It is alleged that they broke the window of a vehicle belonging to ANCYL chairperson Sindiso Magaqa and stole R25000 that was in the car.
ANCYL spokesperson Nyaniso Msiya said since it has become the norm for some of their members to fight and disrupt meetings as they are preparing for coming ANCYL regional and provincial conferences, they have formed an internal structure to deal with those not following the policies of the party.
"We will report them to the regional and provincial ANC and the ANCYL to ensure that they face the consequences," Msiya said.
He said they would also ensure police visibility at all ANC and ANCYL meetings.
But a group of members who were in court to give support to the arrested trio accused the Ibisi police of "influencing and siding with a group led by Magaqa."
Last week in Kokstad a quarrel broke out among ANCYL members and landed Nyameko Mhlongo in hospital.
Property belonging to former Shayamoya branch secretary Khaya Xorile was also damaged.
