League leaders turn up the heat

LOG leaders SuperSport United intend to win their third successive Absa Premiership title and have no plans to drop any more points.

LOG leaders SuperSport United intend to win their third successive Absa Premiership title and have no plans to drop any more points.

"There is no turning back. We are going to finish the season on top of the log," said United winger Daine Klate, who is having an incredible season.

The exciting Klate was speaking after Matsatsantsa a Pitori defeated Free State Stars 2-0 at Atteridgville's Super Stadium on Saturday.

Klate, who is also in line for the Premiership player of the season award, netted the second goal to increase his league tally to 10.

"We want to make it three in a row to prove that winning the league in the last two seasons was no fluke.

"We are not worried about what the teams below us are doing.

"We are going for a home run and nobody will stop us."

United communications manager David "Mazolman" Skosana said: "Catch us if you can. We have won the league and it's a matter of days before it is formalised."

Free State Stars remain adamant that they will not be relegated, saying they will put up a massive fight in their remaining games to guarantee themselves a place in the 16-team league.

"It's unfortunate we lost to SuperSport. We should have wrapped it up in the first half in which we fluffed several golden scoring opportunities," said Stars' Manti Moholo.

Stars winger Matome Madimabe could not believe it when his shot went wide, with goalkeeper Emile Baron at sea in the 28th minute.

The home side took the lead in the 37th minute through Mozambican international striker Dario Monteiro after a move initiated by Klate.

A product of the Transnet Football School of Excellence, Klate hammered in the second one at 72 minutes after a pass from Hlompo Kekana.
