Tables turned

FOR far too long Africa has been the dark continent - a case study for every Tom, Dick and Harry.

FOR far too long Africa has been the dark continent - a case study for every Tom, Dick and Harry.

Outsiders have and are still penning anything and everything about us because we are too lazy to record our own history.

Very few indigenous Africans write about our history, let alone other cultures.

These foreigners, you might think, understand us better than we think we know ourselves.

Enter Eric Myeni, author of Omandingo, The Only Black at a Dinner Table, and the tables are turned.

Myeni has just completed a journal about the French - A Letter from Paris.

"For once the tables are turned in a positive way: an African is observing instead of being observed, and passing comment instead of being commented on," the publishers of the book said.

We can only say to Myeni: ride on brother!
