Brace yourself for winter gear

THE new season is upon us, the shops are busy weeding out the remaining string bikinis and preparing to wheel in rows and racks of wonderfully warming winter gear.

THE new season is upon us, the shops are busy weeding out the remaining string bikinis and preparing to wheel in rows and racks of wonderfully warming winter gear.

In addition to the Audi Joburg Fashion Week Autumn-Winter 2010, Sarita is helping us distinguish the drab from the fab this autumn with trends straight off the international fashion runways.

Put the drab solids into storage - this autumn is all about loud prints. Wear skinnies or leggings with a longer sweater or tunic. Mix a print skirt with a matching top for a dress effect, and pair with a solid top for another look altogether. Add a coloured belt for added glamour.

Biker chic is here to stay. Don't be afraid to wear this look to the office - leather pencil skirts are perfectly ladylike paired with belted sweaters. For a touchable look, pair leather leggings, skinnies and jackets with knits or lace.

Remember to choose a tone that compliments your colouring - softer blues for fair skin, intense blue for darker colouring. Teal looks great on most skin tones.

Always a recurring fashion favourite: keep this tip in mind - black disguises, white is an attention grabber. Use this to draw the eye to your best assets.

Skirts and dresses come in a variety of styles for you to choose from. Fold that mini away for next summer and have your maxi skirt altered to add a bit of glamour to the corporate look.

The fountain of youth - pink is in. The best news is all skin tones look ravishing in hot pink.

Spice up your professional image with a splash of 2010 to the classic knee-length dress.

Go for a cowl neck, a wide-belted waist, a raw-edge trim or bold colour.

Layering. Layering. Layering - the secret of all glam fashionistas.

From slimming solids to faux fur, waistcoats will amp up an oh-so-yawn outfit with a pop of colour or texture.

Metallics are the new bling. Get rid of those screaming accessories and get the same eye-catching effect from a draped silver or gold dress.

Accessories are minimalistic this season so use fabric to sparkle instead.

There's nothing like being bundled up on the sofa on a chilly evening, and now the runways are allowing you to take the comfort outside. To chic up the blanket look, go monochromatic in touchable fabrics such as cashmere.
