An eight-year-old girl and a 28-year-old woman were raped in separate incidents in Kwamsane at the weekend, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

Captain Thulani Zwane said yesterday in the first incident, the mother of the girl noticed blood spots on the child's underwear on Friday, which led to a 27-year-old neighbour being identified by the girl as her alleged rapist. The man was arrested and was expected to appear in the Kwamsane magistrate's court soon.

In the second incident a 28-year-old woman was from church on Sunday when she came across a man who proposed love to her. The man then allegedly carried the woman to a nearby bush where he raped her. Police are still looking for the man. - Sapa
