Malema back at school to make donation

ANC Youth League president Julius Malema is back at school this morning. He will visit Mveledzandivho Primary School in Tshiawelo, Soweto.

ANC Youth League president Julius Malema is back at school this morning. He will visit Mveledzandivho Primary School in Tshiawelo, Soweto.

But this time he will not be disrupting classes, according to the ANCYL.

Malema and Limpopo tycoon David Mabilu will be at the school to donate cash to build classrooms.

League spokesperson Floyd Shivambu said yesterday: "We will visit the school during the first break at about 10am.

"We expect the handing over ceremony to take about 30 minutes. The public can rest assured that we will not disrupt classes," he said.

School principal Takalani Semenya confirmed that the handing over ceremony would be held during the first break.

He said he had raised the issue of disruptions with Malema's office and was assured that it would happen while the pupils were on first break.

"As a school we agreed because it is for our benefit. We approached them asking for assistance to build four classrooms. We showed them the money we had raised and they agreed to help us build two classes," Semenya said.

Each class would cost about R135000 to build. The school managed to raise only R30000 through fund-raising initiatives.

Semenya said the school was expecting a donation of about R240000.

But a source said the donation would be around R450000, from the ANCYL and Mabilu, who grew up in the area.

Mabilu owns Vharanani Properties, a successful housing and infrastructure development company in the country. It was awarded the contract to build RDP houses in Limpopo.
