Superintendent Mzukisi Fatyela said a neighbour found the four dead at 10am.
"They had stab wounds in their head, back and stomach," he said.
Fatyela said an assegai or a bush knife might have been used to kill the four.
Two of the children were aged 13, while the other one was 10 years old.
