Arrows out to sweep Usuthu

LAMONTVILLE Golden Arrows are chasing their fourth consecutive win over AmaZulu in a KwaZulu-Natal derby at Chatsworth Stadium at 7.30 tonight.

LAMONTVILLE Golden Arrows are chasing their fourth consecutive win over AmaZulu in a KwaZulu-Natal derby at Chatsworth Stadium at 7.30 tonight.

Abafana Bes'thende have beaten AmaZulu three times this season - twice in the MTN8 and in the first round of the Absa Premiership.

Manqoba Mngqithi's charges beat Usuthu 2-1 and 2-0 in the first and second legs of WafaWafa, with striker Richard Henyekane scoring the only goal in their league match.

The Lamontville outfit finished 2009 on a high note after beating Bidvest Wits 2-1, while Usuthu were downed 1-0 by Kaizer Chiefs.

Tonight's match will be Mngqithi's first since returning from Real Madrid's camp in Spain, where he was on a two-week learning curve.

Usuthu midfielder Reagan Noble said they will settle for nothing but a win to enhance their chances of securing a top-eight spot at the end of the season.

"The most important thing for us to succeed is for us to be consistent," Noble said.

Arrows' Henyekane said: "We have already beaten them thrice last year and what will stop us from beating them again this year?"

Mngqithi said they were geared up for a tough match with AmaZulu, especially as their neighbours, who are led by Neil Tovey, are not far from the relegation zone.

"We are going to try our best to get back to our winning ways. We need the support of our fans in our quest to finish the season in a respectable position," he said.

l Ajax Cape Town take on Platinum Stars at Athlone Stadium and both sides will be under pressure from their supporters to win after registering some poor results last year.

Ajax welcome back Thulani Serero from Bafana Bafana and the 20-year-old should expect a tough duel with Stanley Kgatla in the middle of the park.

Kickoff is at 7.30pm.
