SOUTHERN African countries have received a major boost in their efforts to produce more environmentally friendly energy.
Finland has entered into a partnership with the Development Bank of Southern Africa that will see ß8,5million, (about R89million), injected into renewable energy and energy efficiency for southern and East African countries.
The agreement was signed yesterday under the umbrella of the Energy and Environment Partnership programme. The initiative aims to achieve more efficient use of renewable energy sources that are in abundance in southern and East African countries.
South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, Botswana, Zambia, Mozambique, Swaziland and Namibia will benefit from this partnership that will be implemented over a period of three years, starting this year, and will run up to 2012.
