Police were about to arrest Ntankiso Nene when he pulled out a gun from underneath his pillow and tried to attack them, said Superintendent Vincent Mdunge.
"Police acted swiftly and shot him dead," he said.
Mdunge said police had found a hijacked vehicle in a workshop in Pinetown.
The workshop owner told police it belonged to a man who lived in Hammarsdale.
"Police went to the owner's house and he led them to Nene, who had sold him the car," said Mdunge. - Sapa
