Have a heart

THE Confederation of African Football's decision to ban Togo from the next two editions of the Africa Cup of Nations proves that CAF is a body without heart.

THE Confederation of African Football's decision to ban Togo from the next two editions of the Africa Cup of Nations proves that CAF is a body without heart.

This is the punishment meted out to Togo for choosing to pull out of the biennial continental football showpiece.

We wonder if CAF are the only ones who are unaware that the Togolese pulled out of the tournament after their bus was shot at on January 8 by terrorists in Cabinda, resulting in three deaths before the start of the tournament in Angola.

Goalkeeper Kodjovi Obiale had to be flown to South Africa for treatment after being shot.

To expect them to have carried on as though nothing had happened is an indictment of the legalistic nature of the regime that rules football on the continent. CAF deserve a red card for unsporting behaviour.
